This
initiative comes from members of the Catholic Church in senior posts
of responsibility who wish to channel, in a positive manner, the
desire for dialogue and communion felt by a large section of the
Catholic Community.
This
independent initiative is not aligned with any church or civil
organisation. At the same time it is offered to all Catholic believers
and asks for the support of those persons and institutions interested.
It is a collective petition addressed to The Holy Father calling
on him to initiate a Council process leading to a new Ecumenical
Council in the Catholic Church.
The
initiative needs to be taken constructively so as to promote communion
among the Catholic community, reach an ample consensus and provide
new spaces for dialogue and communication where concerns, hopes
and new forms of renewal may be discussed freely and compassionately.
A
new Ecumenical Council continuing from Vatican II could constitute
an opportunity for all the Church to offer members and society
a renewed image of a Church responding to internal challenges
and to situations in the world today, especially when inequality,
poverty, exclusion, abuse and violence effect a large part of
humanity.
Decidedly,
organising a new Vatican Council would involve a wide preparatory
process which, in the manner of a Council process, involves the
co-responsible participation of Catholics all over the world along
with the collaboration of other Christian Churches and other religions.
This
initiative will be open during the coming months and information
on its progress will be given regularly. The promoters delegate
the co-ordination of the campaign to S.I.M./I.M.S. (Information
and Mediation Service). You may send your questions and/or petitions
to their email address and will receive a reply as soon as possible.
